The Concept
This project explores the idea of distraction in a metaphorical, open-to-interpretation way through a stop-motion puppet that constantly interrupts my workflow. The puppet becomes a physical embodiment of those small, persistent things that pull your focus away, popping up, interfering, and demanding attention. By the end, the piece highlights a simple message: every distraction looks different for everyone — recognise yours, understand your process, and learn how to work with it.
The Challenge
I went into this project with a lot of nerves, having never touched stop-motion before. I learned everything on the fly, from building the puppet to figuring out the filming process. What I thought would be quick turned into days of crafting, especially the puppet, which took far longer than expected. I experimented with different stop-motion apps, stitched the puppet’s clothes from scraps of my old clothes, and repurposed whatever materials I could find. I handled all the filming myself and even ended up enjoying the VFX work more than I thought I would. It was messy, slow, and full of trial-and-error, but that’s exactly what made it worth it.
